Australian envoy presents credentials to Armenian president

YEREVAN

The Australian ambassador to Armenia, Robert Tyson, today presented his credentials to Armenian President Robert Kocharyan.

The Armenian president expressed the hope that the appointment of the new envoy will be conducive to a growth in bilateral relations, the presidential press service told Mediamax today.

Robert Kocharyan and Robert Tyson discussed possible spheres of cooperation stressing the importance of giving it concrete form and making full use of the existing potential.

Armenia To Host Two Major Economic Gatherings

Yerevan, April 29, Armenpress: Yelena Nazinian, head of Baltic and CIS department of Master Center, established to promote international economic integration, told Armenpress the Center plans to organize Construction-2005 congress in Armenia's resort town of Tsakhkadzor on June 17.

She said the three-day congress will discuss a wide range of questions concerning production of building materials, application of new technologies and other construction industry-related issues.

NSW STATE BUDGET ANNOUNCED

The State Treasurer Dr Andrew Refshauge today released the 2005/06 NSW State Budget.

Highlights include:

  • $34.7 billion for infrastructure over next 4 years, up $8.7 billion on previous 4 years
  • Land tax threshold reintroduced at $330,000 but vendor duty to remain
  • Stamp duty on General Insurance premiums increased to 9% from 5%
  • NSW economic growth in 2005/06 is forecast at 2.75% - Australia, 3%
  • Revenue in 2005/06 up 5.6%, expenses up 6.4%
  • Operating Surplus in 2005/06 at $303 million, down from $569 million forecast for current year.

Thousands Of Armenians Join Hands To Encircle Their Highest Mountain
Yerevan, May 30, Armenpress

Yerevan, May 30, Armenpress: Hundreds of thousands of Armenians joined hands to encircle Armenia's highest mountain Aragats Saturday, in a dance of unity to celebrate the establishment of the first Armenian republic in 1918. More than 150,000 people danced for about 15 minutes in a massive, 165-kilometer (100-mile) circle along the roads surrounding Mount Aragats, about 60 kilometers (40 miles) north of the capital, Yerevan. Armenia
's Economic Growth Higher Than Expected In 2004


Yerevan, May 25, 2005, RBC: In 2004, economic growth in Armenia stood at 10.1 percent, up from 7 percent envisaged by the monetary policy program of the Central Bank of the Republic of Armenia, Tigran Sarkisyan, the Bank's chairman, has stated delivering the Central Bank's report for 2004. Sarkisyan noted that the real GDP growth rates couldn't have kept the country's remaining macroeconomic indices unaltered. The latter deviated from target rates, since the actual economic growth proved above expectations. Sarkisyan also said that unprecedented growth of the country's agriculture turned out to be another important peculiarity in 2004.

Visited Armenia In 2004

268,000 tourists visited Armenia in 2004, which is 52,000 more than in 2003. Head of Department of Tourism of the Ministry of Trade and Economic Development of Armenia Arthur Zakarian informed during the workshop "Novel approaches to cultural tourism", organized by the national commission UNESCO of Armenia's Foreign Ministry.
